Legion branch 259 Vavenby and District announces 2019 Poppy Campaign recipients

The Royal Canadian Legion branch 259 Vavenby and District Poppy Campaign raised $7,999.95 last year in total donations.

The majority of funds were divided and spread among various groups in the Clearwater area as well as further afield in the Thompson Nicola Regional District.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) service dogs for veterans received $500 and the Royal Commonwealth ex-Service League, which helps Commonwealth vets who fought for freedom also received $500.

The Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps 2305 received $500 for a new branch in Barriere, as did Forest View Place.

Wells Gray Search and Rescue had $500 donated to the organization as well as Honour House Ranch, near Ashcroft, which received the same amount to assist with first responders, military personnel and veterans dealing with PTSD.

Clearwater and District Hospice Society was the recipient of $500 and the annual Veterans Dinner received $800.

The Legion's Poster and Literary contest will receive $754.27 to go toward contest prizes, lapel pins, and other items, and $2,108.10 will be given to emergency local veteran's assistance.

"On behalf of the executive and members of the branch I would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the generous donations made by members of the community, including businesses and organizations," said Legion representative, Calvin Lutz.
