Clark County deputies, crisis negotiators respond to report near Columbia River HighUpdated 1 day ago

Jan. 9—No one was injured Sunday when Clark County sheriff's deputies and crisis negotiators responded to a report of an armed person experiencing a mental health crisis near Columbia River High School.

Deputies responded shortly before 3 p.m. to reports of a disturbance near the high school. Authorities determined someone was suffering from a mental health crisis and received reports of a gunshot fired in the area, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Investigators closed the area, and armored vehicles and a drone responded. Mental health professionals reached the person by phone, the sheriff's office said.

The person in crisis told responders they were not seeking to harm themselves or others, and mental health professionals gave them resources, according to the news release.

At that point, deputies left the scene in accordance with legislation, the sheriff's office said.
