Veterans group plans $5M capital campaign, seeks proposals for land purchase

March 25-- Mar. 25--A veterans group plans to buy land in Aberdeen and start a $5 million capital campaign, according to public notices in Friday's American News.

Aberdeen Area Veterans is seeking proposals for the purchase of at least 2.5 acres of land and proposals from people who would be like to be a capital campaign manager. Both proposals are due by April 1 to Aberdeen Area Veterans, Inc.; PO Box 451; Aberdeen, SD 57402; attention: property selection committee or campaign manager selection committee.

The land will be used to build a headquarters for local veteran organizations.

Land purchase requests for proposals can be found at aberdeenlegion.org/AAVI-19001.pdf. Requests for proposals for the capital campaign manager can be found at aberdeenlegion.org/AAVI-19002.pdf.

Land must be inside the city limits, preferably close to the core business area and easily accessible.

Aberdeen Area Veterans is a nonprofit group formed to support local veteran service organizations that include the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League and the 40 et 8.

The Aberdeen Area Veterans board of directors will review proposals at its board meeting April 3.

Seneca ordinance restricts dogs at large

Seneca has passed an ordinance prohibiting dogs from running at large, according to a public notice in the Faulk County Record Wednesday.

A dog is considered at large if it is not confined to the owner's property or if the dog is not on a leash. Violations are subject to a $25 fine for the first offense, a $50 fine for the second offense and a $100 fine for subsequent offenses.

The ordinance also prohibits pet owners from allowing dogs to continuously bark or make loud noises. Written complaints about an animal should be given to the pet owner within 48 hours.
