Adolescent anxiety and depression to be discussed

SOMERSET — The subject in the last Parent Academy series presentation of the school year will be adolescent anxiety and depression on May 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the performing arts center at Somerset Berkley Regional High School.

Nadja Reilly, a clinical psychologist with 12 years of experience at Boston Children’s Hospital, is a lecturer at Harvard Medical School and the associate director of the Freedman Center for Child and Family Development at William James College. She is the author of Anxiety and Depression in the Classroom.

Dr. Reilly will discuss student stress, anxiety and depression and ways to promote social emotional wellness in students to foster self regulation, reduce anxiety and avoid negative outcomes in order to produce the greatest academic based results.

This will be the fifth and last presentation in the Parent Academy series for this school year. The series has aimed to address issues that parents have with their adolescents. Past presentations this school year have addressed adolescent psychology, texting, sexting, social media, drugs, alcohol and opiates.
